College sweethearts Samuel L. Jackson & his wife of 41 years vowed to remain together no matter what

LaTanya Richardson and Samuel L. Jackson got to know one another while they were both in college. The couple swore to always be together no matter what after years of courtship that eventually led to a marriage and a daughter, and they have done so for decades now.

LaTanya Richardson and Samuel L. Jackson first crossed paths in the 1960s while they were both enrolled in Atlanta’s Morehouse College and Spelman College, respectively. Jackson had gone to Morehouse to pursue a career in marine biology. However, he fell in love with the stage after joining a

theatre club for extra credit and changed his major to drama. Jackson frequently travelled to Spelman to perform in plays, it was here that he first met Richardson, a theatre major. Jackson and Richardson have been married for a long time, but they have also had many difficulties together.

Jackson’s drug addiction during the early years of their marriage prevented him from being emotionally present for his family. To weather the storms, the pair has remained together through both good and bad times. Jackson also acknowledged that his love from his family

helped him grow into the man he was supposed to be. He was able to overcome his difficulties, though, with the support of his wife, who insisted he enter a recovery center. Richardson had the option to go, but she opted to stay and support her husband’s recovery.

The actor, who has been sober for more than 30 years, praised his wife for being his rock and the one who made a positive difference in his life. She gave me the chance to become the man I was meant to be, he said. The actor’s career has been stronger since

he was cast as the lead in Spike Lee’s Jungle Fever in 1991 after finishing rehab. On August 8, 2020, the pair will have celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary.
